Bananas bring natural sugar. A lot of banana can mean a lot of stool. That is inconvenience, not clearance to empty the fruit bowl.
What AKC actually allows
AKC’s treat language is about banana flesh in small amounts as an occasional extra. It is not breakfast and it is not a daily topper. Potassium and fiber sound useful on a label. They do not turn fruit into kibble.
Dogs with a pancreatitis history or a sensitive gut should not get a new sugary extra without the veterinarian who already manages that dog. If you offer any, keep it small and watch the next stool. This page will not invent a serving by body weight.
Peels and overdoing it
Skip the peel. The skin is tough. A swallowed chunk behaves like other foreign bodies: vomiting, not eating, a hunched walk after the snack. That is a clinic day, not “more fiber.”
A mashed banana on the floor is how whole fruit disappears. Count what is left before you call it “just a little.” Soft stool after a big share is common. Bright, drinking dogs still deserve a call to the regular clinic if diarrhea keeps going. Blood or repeated vomiting means go in now.

Why grapes are a different file
