Mixing wet and dry food
Mixing is popular: kibble for value and dental crunch, wet food for taste and moisture. The key is to split calories, not volume. If your dog needs 800 kcal, you might feed 600 kcal of kibble (about 1.6 cups at 380 kcal/cup) plus 200 kcal of wet (half of a 400 kcal can). Once opened, keep wet food covered in the fridge and use it within 3 days.
Frequently asked questions
How much wet food should I feed my dog?
Work out daily calories (a neutered 30 lb adult needs about 790 kcal), then divide by the kcal per can. At 400 kcal per 13 oz can, that is about 2 cans a day.
How do I mix wet and dry dog food?
Split the daily calories. For example, feed half the calories as kibble and half as wet food. Work out each portion separately: half the cups of kibble plus half the cans of wet food.
